Gex Is Back: Limited Run Games Revives the Classic Trilogy for Summer 2025

It’s officially tail time.

After years of fan speculation and retro gaming wishlists, Limited Run Games is bringing back the full Gex Trilogy—Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko—with a modern re-release slated for Summer 2025 .

What’s in the Gex Trilogy?

This isn’t just a straight port. The trilogy is being rebuilt using Limited Run’s Carbon Engine, which allows for emulation-based re-releases enhanced with modern features. Expect:

  • Native widescreen support for Enter the Gecko and Deep Cover Gecko

  • Save states and rewind functionality

  • Behind-the-scenes extras, including classic ads, a music player, and an exclusive interview

  • Dana Gould returning as the voice of Gex across all three games

The collection will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

A Gecko with Legacy

Gex debuted in 1995 and quickly became a cult favorite for his wisecracking, pop culture-laced commentary and unique platforming gameplay. The trilogy sold over 15 million units during its original run, yet it’s remained dormant for decades—until now.

Josh Fairhurst, CEO of Limited Run Games, shared his personal connection to the series:

“GEX was always on my mind as a franchise that I felt needed to come back to modern platforms,” Fairhurst explains. “The original games sold over 15 million units. It was incredible to me that a series that sold that well had never been re-released. I was a fan of these games growing up (I remember my first interaction with GEX was playing it on a 3DO demo unit in a furniture store, of all places), so I had a lot of personal passion behind wanting to revive them.”

When Can You Play?

Pre-orders for the Gex Trilogy are set to open on May 5, 2025, with the full release expected in Summer 2025.

Final Thoughts

Limited Run Games is giving Gex the comeback he deserves, blending nostalgia with modern enhancements. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to the series, this re-release offers a chance to experience the gecko's adventures like never before.
