Nintendo’s New EULA Could Brick Your Switch — Modders, You’ve Been Warned
The gaming giant just dropped a major update to its user agreement. If you’re into emulators, mods, or anything outside the official ecosystem… this one hits hard.
Nintendo has updated its user agreement and privacy policy as of May 7, 2025, granting itself the authority to permanently disable user consoles, including the upcoming Switch 2, if users violate its terms. These updates target console modding and unauthorized use of Nintendo services. The revised agreement includes stricter prohibitions against reversing engineering, modifying, bypassing protections, or using unauthorized copies of Nintendo software. Violations can result in the rendering of a Nintendo account or device inoperable. Moreover, in preparation for new chat functionalities in the Switch 2, Nintendo announced it will monitor and record audio and video in chat sessions. These stringent updates highlight Nintendo's ongoing efforts to safeguard its intellectual property, especially amid legal battles such as the one resulting in the shutdown of the popular Switch emulator, Yuzu. This move signals a significant tightening of control over how players use Nintendo hardware and software.
What This Means for You
Modding and Emulation: Engaging in activities like modding your console or using emulators can now lead to your device being permanently disabled.
Privacy Concerns: With the introduction of the GameChat feature in Switch 2, Nintendo will have the ability to monitor and record your audio and video chats. While this is aimed at maintaining a safe gaming environment, it raises questions about user privacy.
Global Implications: It's important to note that these new terms are more enforceable in the U.S. than in Europe, where consumer protection laws limit such actions.
The Bigger Picture
Nintendo's aggressive stance is part of a broader effort to protect its intellectual property. This includes legal actions against emulators like Yuzu and Ryujinx, which have been forced to shut down.
While Nintendo aims to safeguard its products, these measures have sparked debates about consumer rights, especially concerning the use of legally purchased hardware and software.
Final Thoughts
As Nintendo tightens its grip on how its consoles and games are used, it's crucial for users to be aware of these changes. Whether you're a casual gamer or a modding enthusiast, understanding the implications of the updated user agreement is essential to avoid potential issues.

The Fan-Fueled Fighter That Keeps Getting Better
If you're into retro-inspired brawlers and dream matchups, Sega vs. Capcom: The Next Level just dropped a spicy new update. This fan-made crossover fighter—built in Ikemen GO by developer MadXRuler—just hit Beta 2.75, and it’s packing more heat than ever.
What’s New in Beta 2.75?

Built by Fans, for Fans
This isn’t some quick mod. MadXRuler has been building Sega vs. Capcom since 2021, and the polish shows. Animations are crisp, the soundtrack slaps, and the character sprites feel right at home in the golden age of arcade fighters.
The dev is even teasing future additions like Morrigan, Linn Kurosawa, Vyse, and Sakura. No ETA yet, but the roadmap looks promising.

This project is a love letter to the arcade era. It’s got the heart of Marvel vs. Capcom, the grit of Streets of Rage, and the kind of crossover magic fans have been begging for. If you’re even remotely into 2D fighters, this is a must-play.
And hey, if Sega and Capcom are listening—maybe it’s time to make this official?
